Community Involvement
Michelle May O’Neil devotes a significant amount of her time outside the practice of law to community service. She has been a member of Altrusa International, Inc., a professional service organization whose motto is to be “builders of women”, since 1993.
From 2005 to 2007, Michelle served as president of Altrusa Dallas. Under her leadership, Altrusa Dallas achieved great heights in service to the community. The club received the Distinguished Service Club award from Altrusa International, Inc. for both years of her presidency. Additionally, the club was recognized for its significant contributions by the Dallas Independent School District, as a Finalist for the Dallas ISD Outstanding Organization Partner of the Year in 2005-06 and receiving the Copper Partner Award in 2006 and 2007. Michelle designed and spearheaded the DUNK Project (Dallas Uniforms for Needy Kids), which gave over 580 new uniforms to underprivileged children in the Dallas ISD in 2006-07, and over 2,500 uniform items in 2007-08. The Dallas club received the Dr. Nina Fay Calhoun Award for International Projects from Altrusa District Nine and from the International organization for the club’s international activities during Michelle’s leadership, including a Kitchen Shower for the clients of North Texas Refugee Services. Michelle also placed second in the District Nine Edith DeBusk President’s Award for her leadership of the club.
Michelle spearheaded the club’s Seminars for Safety project, providing seminars for women living in apartments on personal safety, which received the Mamie L. Bass Service Award for Altrusa District Nine in 2004 and was nominated for an international award in 2005.
As a member of Dallas Republican Career Women, Michelle served as the Legislative Chair for 2005 and 2006. She is also a member of Golden Corridor Republican Women where she has served as the Chair of the Lincoln Day Dinner Committee. .
